Karnataka's State Festival

For ten sacred nights, Chamundi Hill blazes with illuminations as Navaratri puja reaches its crescendo. Thousands gather at the temple for the royal Vijayadashami procession — the Mysuru Dasara — witnessed by lakhs across Karnataka.

Ashada Shukravara

Jul–Aug

The most revered festival at Chamundi Hill. On every Friday of the Ashada month, the goddess is adorned in resplendent alankara with special abhisheka — drawing lakhs of devotees up the hill.

Chamundeshwari Ammanavara Varadhanthi

Annual

The sacred anniversary of Sri Chamundeshwari Ammanavaru — observed with grand abhisheka, alankara and special poojas honouring the presiding deity of Mysuru.

Dasara / Navaratri

Oct 2–12

Ten nights of celebration — the grandest festival of the temple and Karnataka. Nightly puja, hill illumination, and the royal Vijayadashami procession.

Maha Shivaratri

Feb 26

Special all-night darshan and abhisheka at the Nandi shrine and associated Shiva temples. The hill glows with diyas through the night.

Ugadi

Mar 30

Kannada New Year brings thousands to the temple for the first darshan of the year. Special puja and prasadam distribution throughout the day.

Amavasya

Monthly

On each new moon, the temple extends darshan hours and performs special ancestral rites. Extended crowds — book special darshan well in advance.

Chamundeshwari Devi Jayanti

Jul 18

The birthday of the goddess. Abhisheka, special puja, and grand decoration of the sanctum. One of the most auspicious days of the year.

Rathasapthami

Feb 4

The seventh day of Magha — symbolic of the sun reaching its northern peak. Special surya pooja and chariot procession around the temple complex.
